Giants-Vikings postponed to Monday
Minnesota’s record snowstorm and ongoing blizzard conditions have forced Sunday’s game between the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings to be rescheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET Monday night, the NFL announced.
FOX Sports confirmed it will televise the game in the Minneapolis-St. Paul and New York metropolitan-area markets.
The game, originally scheduled to kick off at noon CT on Sunday, was postponed on the recommendation of Metrodome officials after the Minneapolis-St. Paul area remained under a winter storm warning, with more than 16 inches of snow reported at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport by 9 p.m. CT on Saturday evening.
Stadium officials there turned up the heat inside the dome to 95 degrees Saturday afternoon, hoping to hasten the snow removal efforts. But the plan failed.
Inclement weather throughout the Midwest left the Giants stranded in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday afternoon, where the team’s flight from New Jersey was diverted because of the blizzard that shut down the Twin Cities airport.
The Giants then made the decision to remain in Kansas City and wait for official word from the NFL office, according to the team’s vice president of communication, Pat Hanlon.
The steady snow forecast for the Twin Cities area is expected to clear overnight Saturday, but areas of blowing and drifting snow remain a concern. Sunday’s forecast is for sunny skies, wind and cold, with a wind chill approaching minus-25 degrees.
