Giants RB Jacobs inactive; rookie Cox starts

Published Oct. 21, 2013 8:25 p.m. ET

New York Giants rookie Michael Cox is making his first start with halfback Brandon Jacobs inactive for Monday night's game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Jacobs tweaked a hamstring in the fourth quarter of the Giants' 27-21 loss to the Bears on Oct. 10, but the injury didn't respond to treatment.

Cox has not carried the ball, other than two kickoff returns.

Giants center David Baas returned to the lineup after missing three games with a neck injury. Even though Corey Webster (groin) was back, Trumaine McBride started at cornerback for New York.

Minnesota started Andrew Sendejo at free safety for the injured Harrison Smith (toe). Quarterback Christian Ponder was the backup for Josh Freeman. Tackle Matt Kalil was starting despite a back problem.
