Giants: CB Ross has tear in plantar fasciitis

Published Aug. 25, 2010 1:00 a.m. ET

New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross has a plantar fasciitis tear in his right foot.

The Giants say an examination by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C., revealed the tear for the team's backup cornerback and No. 1 punt returner.

Ross, who missed half of last season with a hamstring injury, will be in a cast for seven to 10 days. He'll then work to regain his strength in the foot after that time.

The injury is different from the plantar fasciitis Eli Manning had last season. Manning didn't have a tear and therefore wasn't forced to miss any games.

The timetable for Ross makes him a question mark for the season opener at home against Carolina on September 12.
