Frank Zombo out with broken scapula

Published Aug. 22, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy says outside linebacker Frank Zombo will miss a ''significant'' amount of time after breaking his scapula.

McCarthy says Zombo broke his shoulder blade in a collision during pregame warmups Friday, then played in the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals despite the injury. The team has not established a firm timeline for his return.

Zombo, an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan, played in 13 games with eight starts as a rookie last season. He also started and recorded a sack in the Super Bowl.

Zombo was competing with Erik Walden and Brad Jones for a starting outside linebacker job in training camp.
