Former rugby star Jarryd Hayne making 'a great case' for roster spot

For the second straight week, Jarryd Hayne turned in a solid showing on the gridiron.

Against the Dallas Cowboys, Hayne turned in punt returns of 27, 34 and 23 yards, including a nifty over-the-shoulder grab on one. He also carried the ball eight times for 54 yards (6.8 yards per carry), including a run of 34.

Despite his performance, the coaching staff has remained even keel when describing Hayne's play thus far.

"The guy is doing really well," Tomsula said, via the team website. "He's making a great case for himself. That's the story in itself. He's in the conversation of making a 53-man roster on an NFL football team, when he's never played football. Now there's the story. That speaks for who he is."
