Former Georgia, Dolphins star Bill Stanfill dies at 69

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Former Georgia and Miami Dolphins star Bill Stanfill has died. He was 69.

The university issued a statement on behalf of Stanfill's family saying he died Thursday night in Albany. No cause of death was provided.

Stanfill was a defensive tackle at Georgia who won the Outland Trophy in 1968 as the nation's top interior lineman. He was a first-round pick of the Dolphins the following year and went on to play on two Super Bowl championship teams, earning Pro Bowl honors as a defensive end four times.

Stanfill was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1998.

The funeral is scheduled for Monday at First Methodist Church in Albany, where Stanfill lived since 1977.
