Former 49ers OL Garland Gregory dies at 92

Garland Gregory, a former San Francisco 49ers star offensive lineman and a member of the original 1946 team, has died. He was 92.

The 49ers announced Gregory's death Friday night. They said he had been battling a brief illness that was not disclosed.

Gregory was a native of Columbia, La., and a graduate of Louisiana Tech. He became the school's first Associated Press first-team All-America in 1941.

Gregory served during World War II and played with the Fourth Air Force team before signing with the 49ers. He played two seasons with San Francisco and was an All-Pro selection both years.

Services to honor Gregory are scheduled Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston, La.
