Ex-Viking Senser takes the stand

Published Apr. 26, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

Former Minnesota Viking Joe Senser says he wasn't surprised his wife failed to pick up their daughters and friends from a concert the night she's accused of striking and killing a man on an interstate ramp in Minneapolis.

Senser testified Thursday that his wife is ''fiercely independent,'' so it wasn't unusual that she didn't make it to the Xcel Energy Center that night.

Amy Senser is on trial in Hennepin County for vehicular homicide. Prosecutors say Amy Senser struck and killed Anousone Phanthavong Aug. 23, then left the scene. Joe Senser says his wife told him she thought she had hit a construction cone or barrel with their Mercedes-Benz SUV.

The Star Tribune says Senser testified his wife's independence was something he referred to as ''Amyworld.''
