Ex-Jags coach Mularkey takes over in Tennessee

With Tennessee's decision to fire head coach Ken Whisenhunt on Tuesday, a familiar face from Jacksonville's past is stepping in as the Titans' interim head coach.

Mike Mularkey, who served as the Jaguars' head coach for one season before being let go, will guide Tennessee through the rest of the year.

The Jaguars finished 2-14 in 2012 under Mularkey. At his introductory press conference in Nashville on Tuesday, Mularkey reflected on his season in Jacksonville, while offering a subtle dig at the roster assembled for him by former general manager Gene Smith.

“I was proud of what (the players) did (in 2012) — we could’ve used more help roster-wise,” Mularkey said, per the Florida Times-Union. “But with what we had, we had a chance to win every week and the players believed that.”

Mularkey, who served as Tennessee's assistant head coach-tight ends coach, will face off against the Jaguars twice in the second half of the season. The two teams meet on Nov. 19 in Jacksonville and again on Dec. 6 in Nashville.
