Ex-Bills K Lindell agrees with Bucs
Ex-Buffalo Bills kicker Rian Lindell agreed to a contract Tuesday night with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a team source.
Lindell and ex-Cowboys kicker David Buehler were two of the specialists the Buccaneers had scheduled for Thursday tryouts. That competition was canceled with Lindell set to join the team.
The Bucs want to provide competition for first-year kicker Derek Dimke, who is 5 for 5 on field goals in preseason games but has never appeared in a regular-season contest.
Veteran kicker Lawrence Tynes has missed almost the entire preseason for Tampa Bay because of a toe injury. FOX Sports NFL Insider Mike Garafolo reports Tynes is likely headed for injured reserve.
Tynes was signed in July after incumbent Connor Barth suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon injury.
Lindell, who was released Monday by the Bills, finished his 10-year stint in Buffalo as the most accurate kicker in franchise history, at 81.3 percent. Lindell, 36, made 21 of 24 attempts in 2012.
Lindell’s limited leg strength won’t be as great an issue in Tampa Bay as it was with the Bills. That’s because the Buccaneers already have a kickoff specialist, punter Michael Koenen, who could also handle field-goal attempts of 50-plus yards.
