Updated Mar. 4, 2020 1:21 p.m. ET

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Jones has been suspended without pay for two games for violating the NFL substance abuse policy.

The suspension begins immediately, and Jones will be eligible to return to the active roster Dec. 5. In a statement issued through the team Monday, Jones apologized to his teammates, his coaches and the organization.

The Dolphins also released a statement saying the organization was disappointed by the development.

A nine-year veteran, Jones is part of the Dolphins' defensive line rotation. He has started five games this year and has 2+ sacks.
