Dolphins Fantasy Football Recap Week 6

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Dolphins pulled off the upset of the week in convincing fashion over the Steelers on Sunday. One Miami player in particular ended with a huge fantasy day, but probably not who you would expect.

The Miami Dolphins looked like a totally different team on Sunday. Not only did they upset a superior team in the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they did so in convincing fashion. I’m sure throughout the game that Dolphins fans believed it was too good to be true, and that eventually they would squander the lead. Instead, Miami held strong and earned their first real victory of the year.

The end result was a positive one in fantasy football as well, particularly for one player. Here’s a recap of Miami’s top fantasy football performers from Sunday.

    Stud of the Game

    Jay Ajayi

If you missed Sunday’s game, and just saw the top rushing stat line you probably would have assumed that it came from Pittsburgh’s Le’Veon Bell. However, it was Jay Ajayi that lit it up on Sunday with 204 yards on 25 carries with two touchdowns. Already having the best game of his career, Ajayi put the icing on the cake with a 62-yard race down the sideline for his second touchdown of the game with just under a minute to go.

Ajayi’s performance was a surprise to say the least, especially with the return of Arian Foster to the lineup. Ajayi was the clear workhorse however, out touching Foster 26-9. Damien Williams also rushed for a touchdown, giving the Dolphins three on the ground in this one. We’ll continue to monitor Miami’s backfield situation, but Ajayi made a clear statement for the starting job.

    Dud of the Game

    Ryan Tannehill

To be fair, Tannehill actually had one of the better games we’ve seen from him in some time. In fact, his 75 percent completion percentage was his best of the season, and his best since he completed 18-of-19 in Week 7 last year against the Texans. The offensive line was healthy and did an outstanding job protecting Tannehill. The only reason Tannehill is our dud of the week is because he failed to throw for a touchdown.

Tannehill could have had a touchdown to Jarvis Landry in the first half, but the throw was a bit behind Landry on a deep ball. Landry was forced to twist his body in mid-air to make an incredible 39-yard completion just short of the goal line. The lack of touchdowns may have resulted in poorish fantasy results, but more importantly, Tannehill did not throw an interception on Sunday, and was not sacked.

    Jarvis Landry

It was just another day at the office for Jarvis Landry, who continued his success after last week’s rough outing against the Titans. Landry’s four straight weeks with at least seven receptions ended last week, but he started a new streak this week after reeling in another seven for 91 yards. Despite not scoring a touchdown, Landry had a major impact in the outcome of this one.

His incredible catch near the end of the first half that led to a Dolphins touchdown gave Miami the momentum heading into halftime. Of course it helps owning Landry in PPR leagues rather than standard, as his upside for touchdowns lacks. Landry was once again the leading target, but Tannehill spread the ball around to his receivers, limiting his potential some. MarQueis Gray even got involved with three receptions, one of which went for 53 yards. DeVante Parker had a relatively quiet day, finishing with five receptions for 28 yards.

    Week 6 Fantasy Points: Standard – 9.10, PPR – 16.10
