Devon Still will accept daughter Leah's ESPY without her by his side

Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still is traveling to Los Angeles without his five-year-old daughter, Leah, to accept the Jimmy V. Perseverance Award at Wednesday’s ESPYS.

Still hoped that his daughter, whose cancer is in remission, would be healthy enough to make the trip with him. Unfortunately, Leah’s doctors determined that she couldn’t travel and would have to miss the event.

Still posted with a few family members on their way to the annual award ceremony in Los Angeles on social media. 

Leah went into remission in March and has been undergoing various treatments to boost her immune system back to normal levels. Her treatments have included radiation and stem-cell therapy. She recently came home from a near 50-day stay in the hospital due to complications from some of the medications she was taking.

The Jimmy V. Perseverance Award was named after former North Carolina State University basketball coach Jim Valvano who dealt with his own bout of cancer and made an emotional speech at the 1993 ESPYS prior to passing away a short while later.

We’re sure little Leah will be watching her father on television in what should be an emotional acceptance of this award. The ESPYs will air at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday on ABC.
