Darren Sharper investigated in alleged South Florida incident
Five days after a California court filed charges against former NFL star Darren Sharper in connection with two alleged druggings and rapes, police in South Florida have launched an investigation into a separate alleged incident involving the five-time Pro Bowl defensive back in Miami Beach.
According to NBC Miami, the investigation stems from a sexual battery report filed last month, however no other details were immediately made available and charges have not been filed.
This latest investigation comes three years after police looked into another incident in Miami Beach in 2011 involving two women who allegedly fell asleep at Sharper’s condo, only to wake up to either Sharper or his brother “behaving inappropriately and exposing himself,” according to NBC Miami.
That case was closed, however, after no evidence of sexual battery was found at a rape treatment center.
The original charges in the California case stem from two separate, but reportedly similar incidents. The first allegedly occurred on Oct. 30 with the other coming on Jan. 14.
In both cases, Sharper is said to have met two women at a club called Bootsy Bellows in West Hollywood, then brought them back to his hotel room. Once there, according to prosecutors, Sharper gave each woman a shot, and the women passed out shortly thereafter.
In the Oct. 30 case, one of the women claimed she woke up to find Sharper sexually assaulting her, and the other stopped the alleged assault. In the Jan. 14 case, one of the two women woke up and believed she had been assaulted, and both women later sought treatment at a local hospital.
Los Angeles County prosecutors also have stated that Sharper is suspected of rape in New Orleans, Las Vegas and Tempe. Sharper was arraigned in court on Thursday and pleaded not guilty of the alleged drugging and rapes of the two women.
Judge Renee Korn set his bail at $1 million (prosecutor asked for bail to be set as high as $10 million) and banned Sharper from bars, clubs or any venue where alcohol is the primary item for sale. The judge also ruled that Sharper must stay in Los Angeles County.
