Cowboys WR Hurd signs tendered contract

Published Apr. 16, 2010 5:33 p.m. ET

Receiver Sam Hurd signed his contract offer Friday, bringing him back for a fifth season.

Hurd went into last season battling Miles Austin for a role as the team's third receiver, then wound up back in the pack and continuing his role as a special-teams ace. Over 50 career games, he has 31 catches for 510 yards and two touchdowns, and 51 tackles on special teams.

Hurd made the team in 2006 as an undrafted rookie from Northern Illinois. A restricted free agent this offseason, the Cowboys put a second-round tender on him, which means he'll make $1.8 million this season.

The Cowboys have yet to sign two key restricted free agents: Austin and safety Gerald Sensabaugh. They can no longer sign with other teams, but are likely hoping to work out more than a 1-year deal. Austin has been offered almost $3.2 million, Sensabaugh just over $1.8 million.
