Charles and Bosa among inactive players on first NFL Sunday

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:33 p.m. ET

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles was inactive for Sunday's opener against the Chargers as he continues to rehab from surgery last season to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.

Charles has been at practice for a few weeks but did not participate in any preseason games.

The Chiefs did have linebacker Tamba Hali and safety Eric Berry active. Hali participated on a limited basis most of training camp after his knee surgery, while Berry skipped all four preseason games while refusing to sign his franchise tender.

Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa remained on the exempt list, delaying the third overall pick's NFL debut. Bosa's exemption ends after the Chiefs game. He held out most of training camp and then hurt his hamstring after getting in one unpadded practice with San Diego.
