SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) Wofford College is building a new arena and naming after its benefactor, Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson.

The school said Richardson provided funds for the planned 92,000-square foot facility that will include a 3,400-seat basketball arena and a 500-seat volleyball venue. The building will also hold locker rooms and other amenities. It will be adjacent to the north end of Gibbs Stadium, the Terriers football field.

Richardson is a 1959 Wofford graduate. His NFL team had held its summer training camp at Wofford since its debut season in 1995.

Construction on the building will start in fall of 2015 with the opening date scheduled for September 2017.
