Browns QB situation more muddled after rookie Kessler hurt

Published Oct. 10, 2016 4:15 p.m. ET

CLEVELAND (AP) Browns rookie quarterback Cody Kessler has a chance to start this week at Tennessee despite injuries to his ribs and chest.

Kessler got hurt when he was drilled on a pass play in the first half of Sunday's 33-13 loss to New England. He was replaced by Charlie Whitehurst, who injured his left knee in the final minutes.

Coach Hue Jackson said both Kessler and Whitehurst are day to day with their injuries. Cleveland has already started three quarterbacks this season and played five QBs in five games.

Josh McCown has been cleared to practice after breaking his left collarbone in Week 2. McCown took over after Robert Griffin III broke a bone in his left shoulder in the opener.

Jackson joked ''we'll have three guys standing out there (at practice) so we'll be able to pick somebody out of the group.''
