Broncos sign Osweiler, Hillman

The Denver Broncos have signed rookie quarterback Brock Osweiler, a second-round pick from Arizona State who they believe can eventually become Peyton Manning's heir apparent.

Right now, he's fourth on the depth chart behind backups Caleb Hanie and Adam Weber but hopes to earn the No. 3 or even No. 2 job in training camp, which starts with meetings Wednesday and practices Thursday.

Osweiler completed 63 percent of his passes for 4,036 yards and 26 touchdowns with 13 interceptions as a junior at ASU last season, his first as the Sun Devils' starter.

Later Tuesday, the Broncos completed their 2012 draft class negotiations by signing third-round pick Ronnie Hillman, a running back from San Diego State who will provide a change of pace from bruising starter Willis McGahee.
