Bills release Alan Branch a day after arrest
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) The Buffalo Bills released veteran defensive lineman Alan Branch on Sunday, one day after he was arrested on a drunken-driving charge.
Police spotted Branch vomiting out the side of his car in Cheektowaga on Saturday. The Bills reported he failed a field sobriety test and registered a blood alcohol level of .14, well over the legal limit of .08. Branch was inactive for Saturday's preseason loss to Tampa Bay.
An eight-year NFL veteran, Branch signed a three-year contract extension after last season. But he reported to training camp out of shape and was banished to the second and third teams after failing conditioning tests.
Branch was drafted in the second round by Arizona in 2007. He played four years with the Cardinals before spending two seasons with Seattle. He signed with the Bills in 2013 and made a career-best 39 tackles last season in 16 games.
The release comes two days before the Bills are to trim their roster to 75.
