Bengals' McCarron struggling with accuracy early in camp

Heading into training camp, the Bengals backup quarterback job looked all but sewn up for A.J. McCarron, but some shaky play may open up the door once again.

McCarron received positive reviews throughout OTAs and minicamp, but he has struggled to find some open receivers in camp this week, as evidenced by these two throws in the red zone.

While it's too early to say that Josh Johnson might be a threat to take the No. 2 job, McCarron's issues could have a trickle-down effect on the rest of the roster. Last year, the Bengals only kept two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. If the coaching staff loses confidence in McCarron, third-stringer Josh Johnson may have to be kept around, squeezing a bubble player like defensive tackle Devon Still out.

McCarron, last year's fifth-round pick out of Alabama, has yet to throw an NFL pass in his career. He missed his entire rookie season with a bad throwing shoulder.
