Bengals choose RB Herron with 6th round pick

Published Apr. 28, 2012 5:56 p.m. ET

The Bengals took Ohio State running back Dan ''Boom'' Herron with their sixth-round pick on Saturday, the first Buckeye they've drafted since 1994.

Herron was one of five Buckeyes implicated in a scandal involving a tattoo-parlor owner in Columbus that led to coach Jim Tressel's forced resignation and NCAA sanctions.

The last Buckeyes drafted by Cincinnati came in 1994, when defensive lineman Dan Wilkinson was the top overall pick and running back Jeff Cothran went to the Bengals in the third round.

The Bengals let running back Cedric Benson leave as a free agent after last season and signed free agent BenJarvus Green-Ellis from New England.

Cincinnati didn't have a pick in the seventh round. The Bengals took 10 players overall - six on offense.
