Bears, Slauson agree on 1-year contract

The Chicago Bears and former New York Jets guard Matt Slauson have agreed to a 1-year contract.

The team announced the deal on Friday. Bears General Manager Phil Emery says Slauson's size and strength will make him a challenger for a starting guard position. Slauson, 6-5, 315-pounds, started 48 of 51 games with the Jets. New York drafted him out of Nebraska in 2009. Last season he didn't allow any sacks.

Slauson was listed on New York's injury report with a knee injury last season.
