Bears sign Sherrod Martin, Daniel Thomas to 1-year deals

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) The Chicago Bears have signed safety Sherrod Martin and running back Daniel Thomas to one-year contracts.

Martin has appeared in 72 games with 38 starts over six seasons for Carolina (2009-13) and Jacksonville (2014). He has 195 tackles, eight interceptions, 22 pass breakups, five forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He played in 13 games for the Jaguars last season and had one interception, two pass breakups and one forced fumble.

Thomas played in 52 games for Miami from 2011-14 and ran for 1,480 yards on 409 attempts. He appeared in 12 games last season.

The Bears also waived kicker Jeremiah Detmer, quarterback Pat Devlin and tight end Jacob Maxwell on Thursday.
