Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte has left Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs because of a right knee injury.
Forte was injured on a run deep in Chicago territory midway through the first quarter, when Kansas City's Derrick Johnson hit him in the knee. He stayed on the ground for several minutes as medical personnel tended to him.
The league's third-leading rusher walked off the field on his own power and stayed on the sideline for a few minutes before heading to the locker room.
Losing Forte was another big blow for a team that's contending for a playoff spot in the NFC. The Bears were already without quarterback Jay Cutler, who's out indefinitely after breaking his right thumb against San Diego on Nov. 20.
