Bad breakup still stings for one-time Rams fans in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS (AP) The 49ers will have lots of fans in St. Louis on Monday night when they take on the Los Angeles Rams.
It's the first game for the Rams since abandoning its 21-season Midwestern home in January.
Jilted fans aren't over the resentment, saying they feel betrayed by Rams owner and native Missourian Stan Kroenke.
St. Louis is widely held as a baseball city, but the Rams sold out every home game from their arrival in 1995 until December 2006, a 95-game streak that ended in the midst of a dreadful run of football. The Rams haven't had a winning season since 2003.
Over the weekend, a suburban St. Louis Elks Lodge held a ''Turn or Burn'' event. More than 150 people showed up with their old Rams gear, which they could burn or donate. Most chose to donate.
