49ers' Torrey Smith: 'Fans don't deserve to watch the way we play'

Torrey Smith is in his first season with the San Francisco 49ers, but he's seen enough to proclaim his team hasn't been worth the price of admission.

"The fans don’t deserve to watch the way we play," Smith said per the San Francisco Chronicle one day after the 49ers absorbed their third straight defeat with a 17-3 home loss to the Green Bay Packers. "We got to get this thing right, now.”

Smith signed a five-year contract worth $40 million in the offseason to provide a vertical threat for quarterback Colin Kaepernick, but the 49ers' offense has been stuck in the mud, scoring 28 points during their three-game skid.

“We’re better offensively than how we’re playing," said Smith, who caught 30 touchdown passes in his first four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. "To be honest, we work too hard to go out on Sundays and play like that. (Coach Jim) Tomsula doesn’t deserve this."

While much of the blame for the offensive struggles has been directed at quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Smith pointed to a lack of execution in the passing game while conceding he displayed "horrible" body language and is still "embarrassed" by the offense's performance on Sunday.

"We have to get that right between the quarterbacks, the passing game in general," Smith said. "If you can’t pass the ball in 2015, you’re in trouble."
