49ers' CB Jimmie Ward 'should be' ready for the start of training camp

Health will be a big key factor for the San Francisco 49ers this year. With so many new pieces in place, the 49ers will need to establish some sort of continuity this offseason.

Cornerback Jimmie Ward, who has been out since last November, when he re-broke his right foot told the San Francisco Chronicle he believes he will be ready for the start of training camp at the end of July.

“I should be (ready),” Ward said. “I feel good right now. I feel fine and everything is coming back positive.”

Ward is hoping the second surgery on the same foot will go better this time around and there will not be any repeats this season.

“They didn’t put in a big enough screw in (the first surgery), supposedly,” Ward said. “Hopefully, this time it fits and it works out for me. I don’t have any concerns right now. I’m moving well, feeling good, not aching. Feels good to me right now.”

Ward will be a key player on the defense this season after they lost their two starting cornerbacks in Chris Culliver and Perrish Cox to free agency.
