Utah Jazz at Los Angeles Clippers Info & Game Thread

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

After capturing their first win of the season over Lakers, the Utah Jazz travel to the City of Angels for a rare Sunday bout with the Los Angeles Clippers.

About the Clippers:  The Clippers crew came out with a 114-106 win in their season opener against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday. Blake Griffin and Chris Paul were brilliant, scoring 27 points each, but the story of the game for Los Angeles was undoubtedly bench play. Marreese Speights had 15 for a reserve unit that outscored the Blazers second string 45-20.

L.A. committed just seven turnovers in the game and made their foul shouts (30-36 FTs outside of DeAndre Jordan). This helped to offset their poor shooting performance (40 percent from the floor, 28 percent from three-point range) and big games from Moe Harkless and Damian Lillard.

About your Utah Jazz: After multiple weeks of action, Derrick Favors returned to the court in Utah’s home opener against the Los Angeles Lakers and was a man possessed on the floor. In just 20 minutes of play, Favors put up 15 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots in a 96-89 victory.

However, it was George Hill that led the way for the Jazz. In addition to using his length to act as a disrupter on defense, Hill scored a team-high 23 points. He’ll need to put out that same kind of effort against CP3 if the Jazz hope to neutralize him.

The Jazz will also look to be more effective at stretching the floor. Against the Lakers, Utah hit on just 6-of-25 from three-point range.

Injuries

Alec Burks (knee) and Gordon Hayward (finger) continue to be out for the Jazz. Derrick Favors should be on the floor once again. Meanwhile, Paul Pierce (ankle) and Brice Johnson (back) are likely out for Los Angeles.

Prediction

The Westgate Superbook Las Vegas currently has the Jazz as 7½-point underdogs in the game. I have a hard time seeing Utah winning outright in L.A., but I’ll be taking them with the points in a game I expect to be closer than most would assume.
