Shaq provides sneak peek of his Lakers statue outside Staples Center
Shaquille O’Neal will soon be immortalized outside Staples Center, joining Los Angeles Lakers greats Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry West and broadcaster Chick Hearn among other L.A. sports luminaries, when the iconic big man gets his own statue.
The official unveiling is scheduled for Friday, and Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson, West and Abdul-Jabbar reportedly will be in attendance.
But O’Neal gave fans a brief glimpse Wednesday of his statue, which in the photo is being lifted into place, while thanking the Buss family for the honor. The statue will capture his iconic pose during one of his many dunks in his Hall of Fame career.

O’Neal spent eight seasons with the Lakers, earning his lone MVP award in 2000 and helping the organization win three consecutive titles.
