Sasha Vujacic got asked about recruiting Kobe Bryant to Knicks
Sasha Vujacic is known best for his times with the Lakers from 2004 to 2010. Right around that time, he fell out of the NBA. But his former coach gave him a chance when he signed him up to play for the New York Knicks for the upcoming season.
When Phil Jackson signed Vujacic, the reasons were implicit. He was a veteran who knew Phil's system and could help teach it to a team of young or new players. But the presence of both those guys tends to bring some ridiculous questioning, too.
From Chris Herring of the Wall Street Journal:
Kobe is a free agent at the end of this season, so you're going to hear some questions about him this season, even though his past implies he's going to want the most money he can get, even if he has another down year for the Lakers this season. If he's most valuable in L.A., and the Lakers are still willing to pay for past performance (plus, we don't even know if Bryant wants to play after this year), sticking with the only team he's ever played for makes the most sense. But even if he explores options elsewhere, I feel pretty strong in declaring that Sasha Vujacic's presence won't sway his decision.
