Report: Lakers expected to bring back Robert Sacre

Published Jun. 15, 2015 2:39 p.m. ET

There are no guarantees moving forward with the Los Angeles Lakers; if you can't help this team get back to its winning ways -- and soon -- then you're probably not long for wearing the purple and gold.

Robert Sacre, apparently, is a part of the future in Los Angeles, at least in the short-term, as the Lakers are reportedly expected to pick up his team option for next season, according to Shams Charania of RealGM. Charania reports that the option is for the veteran minimum ($981,348) for next season, with the possibility of working out a longer deal.

With the NBA draft less than two weeks away, it's also worth noting that Sacre was the 60th and final pick in 2012, evidence that every selection matters, regardless of where in the draft order it may fall.

And while it's not much, Sacre has the added bonus of being a part of the last Lakers playoff team. He played just four minutes in two games in the 2013 playoffs, so take it with a grain of salt anyone talks about having "playoff experience"; not all experiences are created equal. Still, Sacre's seen the glory days, and his demeanor, defensive ability and rebounding acumen are all more than worth bringing back at the veteran's minimum.
