Report: 'Don't assume' Celtics would trade Nets pick for Cousins

Published Nov. 12, 2015 12:19 p.m. ET

The Boston Celtics need a star, and DeMarcus Cousins is one who appears to be unhappy with his current team. And as tensions rise in Sacramento, so do the rumors that Cousins could be on the move.

On paper, a trade makes sense, but would the Celtics be willing to forfeit the unprotected first-round pick they own from the Brooklyn Nets to get him?

It's a dicey situation with no easy answer. Cousins is one of the 10 best players in the league, but can bolt in free agency two years down the line. Meanwhile, a potential number one overall pick is the most valuable asset in the league and would be under their control for the foreseeable future.
