Reggie Jackson's return date is up to him according to Stan Van Gundy
Reggie Jackson hasn’t closed the door on returning to the Detroit Pistons as soon as Sunday. Either way, the decision will be up to him according to Stan Van Gundy.
Reggie Jackson is so close to returning to the court. It could even be as soon as tomorrow.
But when asked for an update on his return date yesterday in Atlanta, Jackson was vague on a potential return. Stan Van Gundy said it will be up to Jackson to make the final decision.
The Detroit Pistons point guard, who has missed the entire season while rehabbing his left knee, was asked the possibility of making his season debut Sunday, against the Orlando Magic at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
“We’ll see,” he said.
The Pistons’ leading scorer from last season declined to elaborate. But by leaving the door open, it shows that he is on the verge of returning.
“It’s pretty much him now,” Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said. “It’s him saying he feels well enough to play. The medical people have cleared him.
“He’s gone 5-on-5, so it’s really a matter of his comfort level and when he want to give it a shot.”
Luckily for the Jackson, the Pistons are playing phenomenally as of late, winning their last three games in convincing fashion.
Either way, Jackson shouldn’t return until he feels his body is ready, but the Pistons’ recent play has to be taking some pressure off his shoulders.
The Pistons will play Sunday and Tuesday at the Palace against the Orlando Magic and Chicago Bulls, before going on the road Wednesday and Friday against the Charlotte Hornets and Minnesota Timberwolves.
That doesn’t leave a whole lot of practice time for Jackson to get in some extra scrimmage time.
I would speculate that he’s active for Sunday, but whether or not he plays could be up to game flow.
If I were Van Gundy and Jackson, I would set aside some minutes in the second period and see how Jackson feels from there. I’d also have my eyes set on a full return against either Chicago or Charlotte.
We’ll see what happens, after all, Jackson and Van Gundy have a much better grasp on where Jackson’s at than anyone else outside the team does.
