Rapper Drake will coach Team Canada at All-Star Weekend vs. Kevin Hart
When the NBA visits Toronto for the 2016 All-Star Game, Canada's very own Drake will be on the sidelines. This time, though, it'll be as head coach.
But Drake's not going to be in charge of substitution patterns for LeBron James or Stephen Curry. Instead, the NBA announced on Thursday that Drake will lead Team Canada in the 2016 All-Star Celebrity Game against Team USA, coached by Kevin Hart:
Drake will be joined on the sidelines by two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash and Toronto Blue Jays All-Star right fielder José Bautista. Canada's team will feature Stephan James ("Race"); Arcade Fire's Win Butler; Drew and Jonathan Scott (HGTV's "Property Brothers"); professional tennis player Milos Raonic; actor and singer Kris Wu; seven-time NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady; NBA TV analyst Rick Fox; and Natalie Achonwa of the Indiana Fever.
Hart's USA team will include Jason Sudeikis ("Race"); Michael B. Jordan ("Creed"); Anthony Anderson (ABC's "blackish"); Bryshere "Yazz" Gray (FOX's "Empire"); Nick Cannon ("America's Got Talent"); five-time NBA All-Star and ESPN analyst Chauncey Billups; NBA legend Muggsy Bogues; Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry; and WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne of the Chicago Sky.
Hart, you might (or might not) remember, is a four-time MVP of the celebrity game. Looking at those rosters, though, Hart's squad could be in trouble. Team Canada has a distinct height advantage in the "Former NBA players" category, with Tracy McGrady and Rick Fox towering over Team USA's Chauncey Billups and Muggsy Bogues.
For Team USA to topple Drake's new friends, they'll need to rely on outside shooting and the spectacular all-around game of the WNBA's Elena Delle Donne. Team Canada will counter once again with height, featuring the Indiana Fever's Natalie Achonwa.
And while we can't condone gambling on this event, there is one safe bet: Hart will surely find a way to get on the court to take a couple of shots and try to win the game for his team. Drake, meanwhile, will let those he trusts do the heavy-lifting as he rides the wave of success to the top.
Team Canada or Team USA. Who you got?
