Porzingis is doing things Knicks haven't seen in almost 50 years
It's getting harder and harder to come up with fresh, creative superlatives for New York Knicks rookie big man Kristaps Porzingis. He's been the toast of the Big Apple through the first quarter of his first NBA season. And after another double-double on Friday night against the Brooklyn Nets, Porzingis is in pretty lofty company in Knicks history.
According to multiple reports, Porzingis became just the second Knicks rookie to tally at least 10 double-doubles in his first 20 games, joining Willis Reed:
Unfortunately, Reed played before box scores for individual games included rebounding tallies, so it's difficult to pin down exactly how many double-doubles Reed had in his opening stretch with the Knicks. His rookie season came in 1966-67.
What we do know, however, is that Reed was a member of the last Knicks team to win a title in 1973. And now he has a peer, at least in one category, in Porzingis. The future in New York is as bright as it's been in a long time.
