New York Knicks: Amazing Story About Jeff Hornacek's Dedication
What exactly are the New York Knicks getting with head coach Jeff Hornacek? Hornacek’s daughter and Chicago sports journalist Abby Hornacek offered a story.
If you believe the media hype, then the New York Knicks could’ve hired Tom Thibodeau or Frank Vogel. Rather than going for two of the consensus Top 10 coaches in the NBA, New York hired former Phoenix Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek.
Though many are skeptical of how Hornacek compares to his more established counterparts, his background is that of a potentially great coach.
Hornacek spent three seasons as the head coach of the Suns. He led Phoenix to severe overachievement in the first two seasons before non-basketball issues consumed the Suns’ locker room.
Per Marc Berman of The New York Post, Hornacek’s daughter, Chicago sports journalist Abby Hornacek, gave insight into how dedicated Hornacek truly is to his job.
“He’s the most dedicated person I’ve ever met, most motivated,’’ Hornacek’s 22-year-old daughter, Abby, told The Post in a phone interview. “That’s been great for me growing up, having him as a role model. After a game, he comes home and watches the game two times. He really puts everything he has into it. That’s what makes him really great.’’
That’s remarkable dedication.
Hornacek comes from one of the most impressive coaching trees imaginable. The coaches he played for include Cotton Fitzsimmons, Johnny Orr, and Jerry Sloan.
Fitzsimmons and Sloan have a combined 2,053 NBA regular season wins, while Orr won 466 games on the collegiate front.
Fitzsimmons and Sloan also won a combined 133 postseason games. Fitzsimmons made three Conference Finals appearances, while Sloan reached the NBA Finals twice and the Conference Finals on six different occasions.
Orr made a National Championship Game, two Elite Eight appearances, three trips to the Sweet 16, and won two conference championships.
Having tapped three brilliant basketball minds, Hornacek is embarking upon this journey with tremendous knowledge. He’s played in two NBA Finals, won over 100 games as a coach, and earned the respect of his peers.
Phil Jackson, who won 11 NBA championships as a head coach, seems to think highly of Hornacek.
The story Abby Hornacek told makes it seem as though Hornacek is committed to building upon the success his mentors achieved.
