NBA Rumors: Miami Heat Guard Josh Richardson To Miss Two Months

NBA Rumors: Miami Heat guard Josh Richardson is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after partially tearing his MCL

Just when it appeared they were getting their feet under them, after losing Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng and Joe Johnson in free agency, the Miami Heat were dealt another obstacle.

After suffering an injury earlier this week, Josh Richardson will reportedly miss 6-8 weeks after being diagnosed with a partially torn MCL. He reportedly hurt his knee landing awkwardly after a dunk attempt during a team workout.

He met with the media Saturday at a 790 The Ticket appearance in Fort Lauderdale, where he made his first public comments (other than on social media) regarding his injury.

Josh Richardson acknowledges he may miss start of the season

Josh Richardson says his rehab will be 6 to 8 weeks

Josh Richardson says when he hit the ground “my knee was on fire.”

Josh Richardson: “It sucks. It sucks bad…. I just wish I could be out there going through it with them.”

The good news, of course, is that Richardson won’t need surgery, which he confirmed during his appearance. The bad news, as noted, is that he could very well miss the start of the season. He will almost definitely miss the majority of training camp, which could also set such a young team back even more.

Richardson was expected to be in the running to win the team’s starting shooting guard position, which will now either be awarded to Tyler Johnson or Dion Waiters (no offense, Wayne Ellington).

With the question of Chris Bosh’s health still very much up in the air, having Richardson as an unknown as well will not help any in Miami.

Training camp begins in roughly three weeks, and there’s a really good chance that the Miami Heat could be without both Bosh and Richardson – two players that many penciled into the the starting unit this summer.
