NBA reportedly limits Jerry Colangelo's Team USA power due to his role with Sixers

Jerry Colangelo stepped back from his role with the Philadelphia 76ers once Sam Hinkie resigned and his son Bryan Colangelo was installed as the team's president of basketball operations.

But since he still has a working agreement with Philadelphia as a special adviser to ownership, the NBA (via Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports) has reportedly stepped in and put some restrictions on his role as managing director of USA Basketball in order to prevent any conflict of interest.

This sounds great on paper, but it's going to be essentially impossible to enforce.

Colangelo has access to a large stable of the league's top players through various USA Basketball events, and his relationships (with players, agents and others in team front offices) is precisely the reason he was brought in to clean up the Philadelphia mess. 

There's no real way to monitor all of his communications, and there's also no way to ensure that his wishes aren't carried out where USA Basketball is concerned, even if he is technically prohibited from physically participating in the creation of the team's final roster.
