Klay Thompson's dad watched 'Monday Night Raw' instead of Game 7
As a former, two-time NBA champion, Mychal Thompson can appreciate just how much pressure his son, Klay Thompson, was experiencing coming into Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals.
Which is precisely why he didn't watch that stuff.
On his ESPN LA radio show on Tuesday, Mychal said he couldn't bring himself to watch the series-deciding game on Monday night.
According to Bay Area News' Diamond Leung, instead of OKC-GSW, Mychal flipped on Monday Night Raw—a very bad Raw, according to some—to pass the time.
What Mychal missed was his son starting the game glacially cold and roaring back to hit six three-pointers - - a light game, by Klay's standards, but one that helped the Warriors Revenant-claw their out their three-game hole and win the series.
When he finally got the good news, Mychal said he felt rapture nearing the level of Warriors owner, Joe Lacob.
So, this is how Mychal probably felt:
Not watching stressful games is a good, dad-ly strategy for managing ambient pressure.
My dad does a version of this, and it involves him walking away from the television during crucial, make-or-break stretches of games. He figures if he doesn't watch it, his team will suck less, because his eyes being on the screen was a factor in them sucking it up to this point. This is undeniable and unimpeachable Dad Logic, and I hope to pass it on to my children.
Because, worst case scenario, you miss further disappointment and get a head start on complaining about things in the garage. Big Dad Win there.
