Indiana Pacers Officially Sign Kevin Seraphin and Pick Up Nick Zeisloft for Training Camp
The Indiana Pacers made it official, inking Kevin Seraphin to a two-year deal today. They also signed Nick Zeisloft, presumably to a short-term training camp deal.
We have known for a week that the Indiana Pacers had come to team-friendly terms with former New York Knicks forward Kevin Seraphin and now it is official. The team announced today that the two parties have inked the deal.
According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, the agreement is for a two-year contract worth $3.6 million. The second year is a team option.
The signing puts the Pacers over the maximum roster size. So with 16 players under contract, Larry Bird will now have to waive someone before the season starts or complete a lopsided trade that sends out more players than it returns. They can only roster 15 once the season begins.
The most likely candidate to exit would seem to be Jeremy Evans, Rakeem Christmas, or Lavoy Allen.
Evans was acquired this summer in a straight cash grab that reportedly earned Indiana $3 million for helping the Dallas Mavericks shave some money off their payroll.

Christmas came over the previous summer in a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers for a second-round pick.
Allen joined the Pacers as a throw-in from the Danny Granger-for-Evan Turner trade in February 2014, and unexpectedly became a rotation staple, even starting some games, under Frank Vogel.
While Lavoy is the most proven of the three, there is also a sense that Bird could ship him out anyway just to remove a slow, traditional option from the rotation. Seraphin has presumably overtaken Allen, but the incumbent’s style of play seems to be exactly what Bird no longer wants to see on the court. Evans and Christmas are both more athletic.
Dumping Allen’s salary of $4 million (on an expiring contract), however, may be harder to sell than either of the other two if Bird has to seek approval from his owner.
The Pacers also have signed Nick Zeisloft.
The 6’4″ swingman played at Indiana University and will likely only be around for training camp. He joins Julyan Stone and Alex Poythress as fodder for preseason practices.
