First Real Blazers Trade Rumor: Nerlens Noel

The Philadelphia 76ers have Nerlens Noel on the Trading Block, with the Blazers Linked to the Kentucky Star

Amongst everything written about the need for a Blazers’ trade, it looks like we have our first real rumor. Philadelphia’s Nerlens Noel has been linked to the Trail Blazers, with Allen Crabbe rumored to be the asking price per Sam Amico of Amico Hoops.

The 76ers have a log jam of their own in the post. They have a rising star in “rookie” Joel Embiid and then a solid counterpart in Jahlil Okafor. Embiid has impressed this season with his range and shot blocking ability. While Okafor has been impressive with his college fundamentals translating well to the NBA. This leaves Noel as an outsider, despite having a solid season last year contributing very well rounded stat lines.

Noel is a freak athlete. Coming onto the scene in his one year of Kentucky basketball, Noel has given the NBA a few awesome highlights. (Here is him swatting James Harden, I mean what else do you need on hump day) In terms of fitting in the with the Blazers, I think there is undoubtedly tremendous potential.

Noel is known for his defense. The guy can block practically anyone that tries to come into the lane, and can grab a rebound with the best. The Blazers need a guy like Noel and I could see him finding success immediately. He might need to pack on a little bit more muscle, but he’s young and hungry to prove himself on a playoff team.

Besides the defense, imagine the pick and roll nightmares Portland could press on opposing defenses. A Mason Plumlee and Noel combo would have two high flying big men rolling to the rim for lobs all day.

I’m still rooting for team growth and figuring out our problems from within. However, this could be a positive change for Portland. We wouldn’t have to give up much for an immediate defensive boost.
