Junior crashes in Goodyear tire test

Published Aug. 29, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

Dale Earnhardt Jr. cut a right-front tire down in Turn 2 and crashed at Kansas Speedway during a Goodyear tire test on Wednesday morning.

Goodyear tire representatives say Earnhardt had 20 laps on that set of tires when he lost control of the car in Turn 2. The tires were the “control tire,” or the tire that Goodyear is considering using for the October NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. It’s the same combination the Sprint Cup cars raced at Michigan Speedway two weeks ago.

Earnhardt was seen and released from the infield care center at the track, and a team spokesperson said the driver was “OK.” The No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports team is one of nine squads involved in the two-day test.
