Final Axalta 400 practice results from Pocono Raceway

Finally, a full round of practice for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Pocono Raceway, with a brother act dominating the proceedings.

After rain and damp conditions on Friday washed out all but 8 minutes of practice for the Axalata We Paint Winners 400, all 40 drivers got on-track during Saturday’s final 55-minute Happy Hour session.

And when the dust settled, reigning Sprint Car champ Kyle Busch was atop of the speed chart, posting a best lap of 176.901 miles per hour around the three-turn, 2.5-mile track.

Busch already has a series-high three victories in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, although Pocono is one of only two tracks where he remains winless in NASCAR’s top division.

Kurt Busch, the 2004 series champ and Kyle’s older brother, was second fastest, running 176.800 mph in his Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet ahead of six-time Cup champ Jimmie Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports Chevy.

Coca-Cola 600 winner Martin Truex Jr. was fourth in his Furniture Row Racing Toyota, followed by Kurt Busch’s SHR teammate Kevin Harvick.

Sunday’s race (FS1, 12:30 p.m.) marks the start of the second half of the 26-race Sprint Cup regular season. Penske teammates Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano will start from the front row in the race.
