Crew members fired after drug arrest

Two Earnhardt Ganassi Racing crew members were fired Wednesday after their arrests on charges of trafficking marijuana.

Police arrested Trevor Lynn Lysne and Jerome David Frey in Huntersville, NC, on Tuesday after confiscating about 10.5 pounds of marijuana that authorities say had been shipped to the two men from California.

“(We received) a tip that it was coming in from California from Fed Ex,” said Capt. Michael Kee of the Huntersville Police Department. “We set up an undercover operation and caught them.”

Lysne was charged with one count of trafficking marijuana, one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, and one count of maintaining a dwelling to distribute marijuana.

Lysne, 40, was the front tire changer for the No. 42 car driven by Juan Pablo Montoya. Frey, 27 was a mechanic.

They were fired by EGR and suspended indefinitely by NASCAR officials.

“I am extremely disappointed with the news that we received about two of our crew members," team owner Chip Ganassi said. "We have a zero-tolerance policy in this organization, and effective immediately both individuals’ employment has been terminated.”

NASCAR offiials said they suspended Lysne and Frey for violating Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 19 (violation of the substance abuse policy) of the 2011 NASCAR rule book.
