Canadian racer Patrick Carpentier will join the No. 32 Go Fas Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team for Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway (FS1, 1:30 p.m. ET).

This will be Carpentier's first start since Kansas Speedway in 2011. He will also race for the team at Watkins Glen International in August.

After being out of the seat for so long, Carpentier had some catching up to do.

"I have not yet tried the new car generation and I'm really looking forward to it," he said in a team press release. "Last week I spent a lot of time in the sim (simulator) at the Ford Tech Center, and it really helped. I believe it took a day off me getting acquainted to these cars again. It is amazing how far the technology has come lately."

The Quebec native has two Cup starts at Sonoma, scoring a career-best finish of 11th for Michael Waltrip Racing in 2009.
