The first incident of Sunday's GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway was a two-car incident that collected Brian Scott and Michael Waltrip.
The incident occurred when Scott appeared to lose an engine just past the start-finish line on Lap 18. With smoke billowing out the rear of the car, Scott spun going into Turn 1 and Waltrip had nowhere to go but into the side of Scott's No. 33 Chevrolet.
Scott was able to climb from his car, while Waltrip took his car to the garage with extensive damage.
