Yanks bring up Williams for possible debut, put Miller on DL

NEW YORK (AP) The Yankees have recalled outfielder Mason Williams and right-hander Chris Martin from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and put closer Andrew Miller on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left forearm.

Williams, selected by New York in the fourth round of the 2010 amateur draft, could make his major league debut. The 23-year-old started the season at Double-A Trenton and hit .317 with 11 RBIs and 11 steals in 34 games, then was promoted to Scranton and batted .321 with 11 RBIs in 20 games.

New York optioned outfielder Ramon Flores to Scranton on Wednesday.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi revealed Miller's injury Wednesday and said the left-hander will not throw for 10 days to two weeks. Miller, whose DL stint is retroactive to Wednesday, is perfect in 17 chances in his first season with New York.

Martin was 0-1 with his first big league save and a 3.55 ERA in 15 relief appearances before going on the disabled list on May 9 because of tendinitis in his right elbow. He made an injury rehabilitation appearance at Scranton on May 30, then was optioned to the RailRiders the following day and has pitched in three more games.

In addition, right-hander Ivan Nova's rehabilitation assignment was transferred to Scranton, where he is scheduled to start Saturday. Nova, recovering from Tommy John surgery in April 2014, could be back with the Yankees next week.

Right-hander David Carpenter, who was designated for assignment on June 3, was traded to Washington for minor league second baseman Tony Renda.
