The New York Yankees have donated $500,000 to the relief efforts for the deadly tornadoes that struck the South.

The Yankees donated $250,000 to the American Red Cross and $250,000 to the Salvation Army.

Yankees general partner Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal said Friday that the team wanted to help rebuild the communities in Alabama and all across the South that were devastated by this week's storms.

Yankees relief pitcher David Robertson grew up in Tuscaloosa, Ala., one of the hardest-hit areas. He said his family was OK.
