Tigers release RHP David Pauley

Published Mar. 13, 2012 6:00 a.m. ET

The Detroit Tigers have released reliever David Pauley after the right-hander got off to a slow start in spring training.

The Tigers announced the move Monday after a 7-all tie with the New York Mets in 10 innings.

Pauley gave up five earned runs in 2 2-3 exhibition innings.

Pauley had a 2.15 ERA in 39 appearances for Seattle last season before being traded with starter Doug Fister in August. With Detroit, Pauley was 0-2 with a 5.95 ERA in 14 games and left off the postseason roster.

''I know I am better than I showed,'' Pauley said. ''I can't blame anybody but myself.''

Pauley, who was out of options, was competing for a middle-relief spot. Detroit also placed designated hitter Victor Martinez on the 60-day disabled list.
